pumpkin pie oat slices

Pumpkin, spice and everything nice....I know I know...this has become an overused phrase BUT it truly is a wonderful combination. In a variation from the classic American pumpkin pie I used to enjoy when living in New-York, I have kept the warming pumpkin and spice element and dressed it into an oat square. Perfect to enjoy with a cup of spiced apple or cinnamon tea. Kids loved it too!

Gluten free no flour zesty muffins

Because life is all about balance and enjoying real good food, I decided to give the classic muffin a little Health Boost twist. The kids requested two different flavours – Lemon and poppyseed and choc-orange. I accepted the challenge and this recipe is for 12 light and fluffy muffins – 6 of each flavour. I have used ground almonds instead of flour and raw honey as the sweetener.

stewed apricots & plums

When fruit season is in full swing, let's take advantage of it! Having fruits as part of a healthy nutritious breakfast is a great way to kick start your day. This very simple apricot and plum stew is not only seasonal and delicious, it is extremely versatile. It makes a perfect crumble base, or a great topping for your morning oats or Greek yoghurt!

blueberry & almond loaf

Reworking childhood recipes with a healthier twist is one of my favourite kitchen challenge. I strongly believe in enjoying old fashioned foods. French classics such as clafoutis are delicious, seasonal and the opposite of fussy. Try this no refined sugar, gluten and dairy free version and share with the family this summer!

Yogurt, raspberry, beetroot energy breakfast

The sun's finally coming out to play, all my favourite berries are also coming into season so it's time to play with those gorgeous colours and make healthy food look pretty and attractive to young and not so young! Offering a yoghurt and a few fruits to the kids for breakfast or dessert is great but they get bored! Choose a nice glass, cup or jar, and get creative with some nutritious layers! Here's what I did and I found great success!

carrot & cinnamon cookies

When love of food and health meet in the kitchen, you get balance! This means that cookies can still be part of your life! Sometimes, the children will ask "Oh no mummy, is that another one of your healthy recipes?". How about "No" for an answer until they try!
These new cookies bring together some of the flavours of a carrot cake without the unnecessary sugar overload and are a great success at school pick-up time. Nice breakfast cookie for those in a rush!

ginger & turmeric energy snacks

Ginger & Turmeric go hand in hand...yes...just like Gin & Tonic! Their combined taste and amazing immune boosting properties can transform any bland dish. With a hectic family life, various after school activities multiplied by the number of children, making sure healthy nutritious snacks are plentiful in the car is key! So I am forever creating new flavours for the trusted raw energy balls.
G & T have been approved so they can now be shared with you all!

banana & date bread

We've had to do a lot of testing, and then obviously eating, to get this banana bread right. We were determined to make a banana bread with zero refined sugar – not even maple syrup or honey. We used only naturally sweet bananas and dates to sweeten. All five THB children declared it a winner, which we can tell you is a hard task indeed!

caulirice salad

This salad uses cauliflower rather than a grain or rice to create a substantial salad that can be eaten on its own or added to a buffet table of other salads. It's best not made the night before as cauliflower when cut and left produces a sulphur smell. If you do store in the fridge make sure it's got a lid on!
